PROFILE ON ASSIN KENTE TOURISM PROJECT

Historical and Recent Information

" There is an old saying that, God has made no one absolute, the rich depend on the poor as well as the poor on the rich"

" Again, the world is but a magnificent building, but all the stones are gradually put together, no one subsists by oneself alone"

Why these quotations in connection with the establishment of Assin Kente Tourism Project in the context of employment?
The people of Assin, researches have shown that they are naturally great achievers in terms of socio-economic, political, technological and religious sectors, but the major problem which beset them is the master-mentor relationship that is , a mentor who will lead them to identify their potentials and also to generate the necessary capital to support their potential upbringing.

Many people from Africa, particularly those in the deprived areas like Assin have shelve their capabilities at an early age, simply because, they could not get a helping hand to develop their talents. Thus, they migrate to the cities to seek greener pastures, and others get into sex and alchoholism.

It must be borne in mind that, every great achiever should have a good mentor to initiate him into an area of development.

After an identification of their setbacks in Assin, there is an area of progress where many of the youth from Assin can get their future better life, thus, the establishment of ASSIN KENTE TOURISM PROJECT.

The main aim is to bring kente Industry in Assin, which is according to a survey, the second to BONWIRE KENTE in the Ashanti Region of Ghana onto the lime light.

The next post will be the PURPOSE OF THE PROJECT.

ASSIN STATE AND KENTE WEAVING

Assin is the Municipality in which I work as a minister of the gospel in Ghana , and KENTE is our native and locally- made cloth which is being admired by the Presidents of the nation, our kings, Government Ministers and members of Parliament, and other prominent men across Africa, U.S.A, etc.
Assin State has been in slumber over the years. Our hman, material and nayural resources have been used to develop other areas without due recognition. Our antural resources, Gold, Diamond, Sand and Stone, Quarry, Cocoa, Cassava, Citrus, Rice and plantations taken away from Assin to support other parts of the country, but Assin remains a poor

The most ugly side is the Assin Kente production. We can boast of 70% of pure Kente on the Ghanaian market today are from Assin State. We count about One Thousand, five hundred (1,500) people in Assin Kente production in Assin.

The retailers from all over the country buy the Assin Kente at cheap prices and only rename it and resell them at at high prices elsewhere.

Leaders of Assin are doing everything possible to change this trend for Assin to take credit for its human and material resources. "Yes they can".

40TH BIRTHDAY

I am a 10th June, 1969 born. I celebrated my 40th birthday on 10th June. 2009. Prior to the day of celebration, I got most of my friends in Ghana and abroad informed through e-mails and text messages.
In the morning of 10th June, I first gathered my household and prayed for some time expressing my sincere thanks unto God for adding another year to my years. Someone will another "candle to my cake".
The next thing was a gathering which involves my siblings and Church members with the to receive counsel from them. They really gave a lot of advises to express their desire for God to extend my years. From this time going was songs of praises to God in my house,my beloved wife was the first to present a birthday card to me, and followed by brethren who were coming inn with birthday greetings, cards, and gifts.
At around 3.00 p.m getting to the evening, my wife prepared me some "FUFU" and light soup with goat meat speciaaaaal and the entire family of mine sat round a table and dinned peacefully.

I thank everyone who heard and became part of my birthday celebration. May God reward each and everyone. Hurray, Hurray, Hurraaay!

ENCOURAGEMENT FOR DEAF PEOPLE

Deaf people are very special. Things they can do are also very specail. Why? This is because itb is clearly stated in Gen. 1:26-27 that God created man in his own image. No matter what your situation is as a human being, you are God's image. All disable as well as able persons are God's image.

Deaf are someimes abondoned by thier friends, praents, society as well. I personally strongly believe that some deaf people can grow to become world changers depending on what the deaf people themslves can allow themselves to be taught to do.

On the contrary, majority of the deaf people accept poverty for themselves, but I want to say that deaf people cannot be poor. So let your deaf sons, daughters, fathers, mothers, friends and relatives that they cannot be poor. If you are a deaf or hearing impaired, tell yourself that I cannot be poor. If they have this thought and make this cofession, the little thing that someone will give to them, they can work faithfully with it and in due time become rich.

People often say negative things about the deaf; lets encourage them not to think about evil things people talk about them and get discouraged, or to determine what they should do, negatively. Let us continue to encourage them that God doesn't do things for nothing. He acn choose to let everybody speak or hear, but the question is, Why acn't some speak nor hear? Either you were born deaf, became by sickness or through accident, don't worry, lets say God has chosen to make you so and, therefore, has a very good plan for you. God did not plan to make deaf people useless, rather, useful for Himself nad His creation.

Let us encourage deaf people to dream big and high. Lets tell them that no one will arrest them for dreaming to become a president, lawyer, doctor, head of an institution, minister of God, or a successful businessman.

MAY GOD RICHLY BLESS YOU FOR ENCOURAGING DEAF PEOPLE.

DEAF CAMP 2008

The theme for the camp was " A HEALTHY CHRISTAN MAKES A HEALTHY CHURCH". From 24-27th Dec. 2008, deaf camp was held in Ghana at Akuapim Mampong in the Eastern Region. Stationview Church of Christ deaf brethren joined this program with 17 deaf people. We traveled a journey of 236km to the place. We started the journey at 5:30am and arrived there at 11:40am. It cost the church $250 to hire a car for us.

SPEAKERS
A Christian brother who was once a destitute and has made it from grass to grace was present and challenged the deaf and also inspired them not to look down on themselves as deaf or disabled persons but, to discover their fullest potentials to the glory of God and his church.

A professional medical personnel also was present and spoke on "the dangers of hepatitis, Diabetes and Cancer, its causes and prevention"

Ghana's most beautiful (Miss Ghana) was to be our special guest to tell us how it is like to be a child of a deaf parent, and to share with us her vision as well as her challenges as a child of a deaf parent. Very unfortunately, she could not attend the program due to some inconveniencies.

Other guest was also a gender/human rights activist and a legal practitioner. She was also supposed to take us through "the disability law of the land- its implication and application". She also could not come due to illness.

The national president of Deaf Association in Ghana presided over the entire program.

OTHER ACTIVITIES
Morning devotions were timely conducted from 7am-8am throughout and one morning I was called upon to give a shot devotional sermon. So I preached on Exodus 4:7-10.

There were Singing competition and the songs are: To God be the Glory, Walking in sunlight, and My Jesus I love Thee; Memory verses from Daniel 1:1-8; Bible Quiz with three brethren from each ministry to contest for beautiful prizes. The winning congregation will have to defend the prize in the next camp. Three times defender keeps the prize for good; and drama to keep our minds refreshed for the next coming year.

FEEDING
We were fed three meals a day. The food was delicious and appetizing and of different kinds.

NUMBER OF MINISTRIES THAT ATTENDED
In all were seven(7) ministries representing four out of the ten regions in Ghana. Three from Central, one from Greater Accra, one from Ashanti, and the other from Western regions.

OUR ABILITY
Stationview deaf ministry was the first to arrive at the camping ground, and we were given prize for that.

We were the only ministry that sent higher number of deaf members.

We were the only new deaf ministry to join the camp this year.

In the end, our stands were 3rd position in Bible Quiz, 3rd position in Singing Competition and 3rd position in Bible Memory Verse.

My ministry (Stationview Church of Christ Deaf Ministry) won a prize of "WELL BEHAVED DEAF MINISTRY".

DEPARTURE
The whole program was climaxed on Saturday 27th because of the "run off" of the national presidential election. So we left there around 6:30pm and arrived home 12am midnight.

THE YEAR 2009

God has limitations to time and periods. We have 24 hours as one day, 7days as one week, 4weeks as one month and 12 months as one year.

One day has atime limit of 24hours - then it starts over again.

One week have days limit of 7 - then it starts over again.

One month have weeks limit of 4 - then it starts over again.

One year have months limit of 12 - then it starts over again.

Have you questioned why is it so to start over again at the end of every limit?

Have you questioned why the next 24hours or every day takes a new name?

Have you questioned why the next month takes a new name?

Have you questioned why the name of certain years are called 2006, 2007, 2008, or 2009?

God causes these things to happen among human race. To start over or try again sensitizes us abou the necessary changes to be made in life from negative to positive and also from failure to success.

The term "New Year" calls for new things , change for new better things, and gives us a chance to TRY AGAIN or to START OVER AGAIN. Ephesians 4:22a tells us to remove our old sin and put on new self-living.

As we celebrate the New Year: Think about some areas of weakness in your life. Think about ways you can improve and be more like Jesus- Ephesians 4:24

WISHING YOU A HAPPY NEW YEAR!
